Great news, the UK is to develop a renewable power source that is as reliable as well the Tide.
We can predict the level of tides for ever, so todays announcement “Tidal lagoon: £1.3bn Swansea Bay project to be backed” makes great reading. It will comprise 16 hydro turbines, a six mile breakwater wall, generating electricity for 155,000 homes for the next 120 years.
We have to go back to 1956 and the opening of Calder Hall the first commercial Nuclear PowerStation as an example where the UK bought a new and innovative power technology to the World. On a cautionary note, we should respect that it takes time to develop a new technology as was the case with Nuclear.
Our hope is that the UK will develop the Engineering skills and the Financial models needed for Tidal Power Generation and we will be tracking the development of Swansea with interest.
